Fortnite Cracks Down on Players Exploiting Latest Proximity Chat Update

Fortnite Cracks Down on Thousands of Players Misusing Proximity Voice Chat

Epic Games has taken decisive action against thousands of Fortnite players who exploited the new proximity voice chat feature, highlighting the ongoing challenges of managing online gaming communities. Since its release in 2017, Fortnite has consistently rolled out updates aimed at keeping gameplay fresh, engaging, and entertaining. These updates include content additions, gameplay tweaks, and new features designed to enhance the overall player experience.

Delulu Mode Brings a Fresh Twist to Fortnite

The latest update, released on September 19, introduced Delulu, a limited-time Fortnite mode that shakes up the traditional Battle Royale format. Unlike the standard experience, players in Delulu do not start from the familiar Battle Bus. Instead, 80 players enter solo and can form squads of up to four using the proximity voice chat feature. This mechanic allows teams to join forces strategically—or even betray their former teammates—adding a new layer of gameplay.

While Delulu offers exciting possibilities, the new voice chat system has sparked controversy within the Fortnite community, with many players divided over its impact on the experience.

Thousands of Accounts Suspended Over Abusive Chat

Epic Games confirmed on Twitter that thousands of players were banned for using proximity voice chat to direct insults and engage in hate speech during Delulu matches. The company’s official updates profile also emphasized the importance of reporting toxic behavior through the in-game system. The tweet included step-by-step instructions for players to report abusive chat, allowing Epic Games to gather evidence and enforce appropriate sanctions.

Community Reactions Highlight Toxicity Concerns

Players quickly responded on social media, sharing mixed experiences with the new chat feature. One participant described a “fun and relaxing” match with adult players, contrasting it with what they called a “toxic hellzone” when playing with younger participants.

Reddit user Kilr_Queen75Xx highlighted another serious issue, asking women about their experiences in Delulu. Several reported being targets of misogyny, including one case where male players allegedly hunted women in the game after hearing their voices. These discussions underscore the challenges of maintaining a safe and inclusive environment in online multiplayer games.

Upcoming Delulu Sessions and Rewards

Despite the controversy, Fortnite players will have another chance to try Delulu from Friday, September 26, through Monday, September 29. Players who achieve victory in this mode will be rewarded with Crashbella, a new free glider designed like a colorful umbrella topped with a heart.

Epic Games has yet to release an official statement addressing the broader controversy surrounding proximity voice chat, but the upcoming sessions are likely to test the company’s moderation systems once again.
