Phictly Launches Social Discovery App Connecting Fans Through Books and TV

New Social Platform Phictly Reimagines Online Communities for Niche Interests

Rebuilding the Sense of Community in the Social Media Era

Long before today’s algorithm-driven platforms, online interaction felt simpler. Posting a passionate take about the latest “Grey’s Anatomy” episode on Myspace or stumbling upon a Facebook group like “Team Jacob Forever” could easily make your evening.
But as major platforms grew, finding close-knit, interest-driven spaces became increasingly difficult.

A new app named Phictly is trying to bring that experience back.

A Platform Designed for Hyper-Focused Fan Communities

Available on both iOS and Android, Phictly allows users to create or join small clubs built around specific TV shows, movies, and books. These curated spaces are tailored for people who want to share thoughts about particular titles without worrying about being judged or drowned out in massive groups.

Fans can join fantasy-reading clubs to chat about Violet and Xaden from Rebecca Yarros’ The Fourth Wing or revisit early seasons of Grey’s Anatomy—all within intimate, manageable groups.

Where the Idea Started

Phictly was developed by Nyleena Aiken, who first had the idea while running a book club with her sisters. She found that choosing titles that appealed to everyone was surprisingly challenging. That struggle led her to realize that countless others likely faced a similar issue and could benefit from a space built around individual titles and discussions.

“Looking at our competitors, there are many large groups with little interactivity,” Aiken told TechCrunch. “Phictly keeps discussions focused and aligns with everyone’s fast-paced lifestyle, allowing users to fit conversations into their schedules.”

Small Groups, Spoiler-Proofing, and Flexible Timelines

The app offers simple but thoughtful features that aim to make conversations more engaging:

1. Intimate Clubs

Each club is limited to 20 members, ensuring conversations feel personal and easy to follow.

2. Custom Discussion Pace

Whether you love binge-reading a book in 24 hours or prefer to explore a series slowly, clubs can run from just a day or two up to 30 days, depending on members’ preferences.

3. Controlled Spoiler Sharing

Phictly includes a spoiler-posting tool that keeps spoilers blurred until readers or viewers catch up. Users can reveal them only when they’re ready, creating a more enjoyable and respectful experience for everyone.

4. “Talk Points” for Structured Debates

The built-in Talk Points feature lets clubs set specific dates to discuss chapters or episodes, helping members prepare for each conversation without rushing.

Tracking Reading and Watching Habits

Much like Goodreads, Phictly includes progress-tracking tools. Users can log what they are reading or watching, set personal goals, and keep a record of their entertainment habits over time.

Upcoming Enhancements: Matchmaking and Gaming Clubs

Future updates will bring a matching system designed to pair users with others who share similar tastes, favorite genres, or commonly enjoyed shows and books. The company also plans to broaden its scope to include clubs built around video games, opening the platform to even more niche communities.

Business Model and Subscription Plans

Phictly is free to download and use. However, the company is exploring monetization options, such as a future premium subscription that may unlock additional features—including the ability to create a private profile.
