Ryzen AI 400 Series Signals Next Step in AI PCs
Central to AMD’s CES presentation was the unveiling of the Ryzen AI 400 Series, the company’s latest generation of AI-enabled PC processors. According to AMD, the new chips deliver 1.3x faster multitasking performance compared to competing processors and are 1.7x faster for content creation workloads.
The Ryzen AI 400 Series is designed with 12 CPU cores and 24 threads, allowing multiple instruction streams to be processed simultaneously. This architecture is intended to support increasingly complex AI-driven applications while maintaining performance efficiency for everyday computing tasks.
The new processors represent an evolution of the Ryzen AI 300 Series, which AMD first announced in 2024. AMD originally launched the broader Ryzen processor family in 2017, marking nearly a decade of development in high-performance PC chips.
AMD’s AI PC Ecosystem Doubles in One Year
During a CES press briefing, Rahul Tikoo, senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s client business, highlighted the rapid expansion of the company’s AI PC ecosystem. According to Tikoo, AMD has now grown to more than 250 AI PC platforms, representing a twofold increase over the past year.
“In the years ahead, AI is going to be a multi-layered fabric that gets woven into every level of computing at the personal layer,” Tikoo said. “Our AI PCs and devices will transform how we work, how we play, how we create and how we connect with each other.”
New Gaming Processor Targets Performance Enthusiasts
Alongside its AI PC roadmap, AMD also introduced the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D, the latest addition to its gaming-focused processor lineup. The chip is designed to meet the demands of high-performance gaming while benefiting from AMD’s latest advancements in processing efficiency.
Emphasising the broader impact of AI on user experiences, Tikoo added:
“No matter who you are and how you use technology on a daily basis, AI is reshaping everyday computing. You have thousands of interactions with your PC every day. AI is able to understand, learn context, bring automation, provide deep reasoning and personal customization to every individual.”
Availability and Graphics Innovation
AMD confirmed that PCs powered by either the Ryzen AI 300 Series or the Ryzen 7 9850X3D processors are expected to reach the market in the first quarter of 2026.
In addition, the company announced an updated version of its Redstone ray tracing technology, which simulates the physical behaviour of light to enhance visual realism in video games. AMD said the new iteration improves graphical quality without introducing performance or speed limitations, reinforcing its focus on both AI and gaming innovation.
