WhatsApp Unveils AI-Powered Message Drafting and More in Latest Update
Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp is rolling out a suite of new features, including an AI-powered tool that suggests message drafts based on users’ conversations. The update also brings enhancements like smarter storage management, photo editing with Meta AI, and more.
AI-Powered “Writing Help” Gets Smarter
At the heart of the update is WhatsApp’s “Writing Help”, first introduced in August last year. Previously, Writing Help allowed users to rephrase, proofread, or adjust the tone of messages. Now, according to a Meta blog post, the feature can generate AI-suggested replies tailored to the conversation, helping users get their message “just right.”
Meta appears to be encouraging users to draft messages using its in-app AI tools rather than external platforms like ChatGPT. However, not everyone may embrace the feature, as many prefer authentic, personal communication with friends and family. “Using AI to write an email is one thing; using it to message the family group chat is another!” the company notes.
Meta reassures users that chats remain private, even when Writing Help is in use. To try the feature, users simply tap the chat bar, select the stickers icon, and then tap the pencil with sparkledust icon to access AI-powered suggestions.
Smarter Storage Management
WhatsApp now offers a more flexible way to free up storage. Users can identify and delete large files within any chat, without having to remove entire conversations. For example, it’s possible to clear only media files while keeping chat history intact, giving users better control over their data.
Photo Editing Powered by Meta AI
Another highlight is the ability to touch up photos directly in chats using Meta AI. Users can remove distractions, swap backgrounds, or apply new styles to images, all without leaving the app.
Expanded Chat and Account Options
The update also improves cross-platform flexibility. Users can now move chat history from iOS to Android, as well as between devices on the same platform. iOS users also gain the ability to log in to two WhatsApp accounts simultaneously, a feature previously available only on Android.
Stickers Get a Smart Upgrade
Even WhatsApp’s stickers are getting an AI boost. The app can now suggest stickers based on the emojis typed, allowing users to swap them in seamlessly for more expressive messaging.

These features are currently rolling out and will soon be available to all WhatsApp users, enhancing the app’s AI capabilities, storage management, and overall messaging experience.
