Shield AI Soars to $12.7B Valuation, Marking 140% Growth Following U.S. Air Force Contract

Shield AI Secures $1.5B Funding, Soars to $12.7B Valuation After U.S. Air Force Contract

Autonomous military aircraft developer Shield AI has successfully closed a $1.5 billion Series G funding round, reaching a post-money valuation of $12.7 billion, the company confirmed on Tuesday. The round was spearheaded by private equity firm Advent, which has allocated $1 billion specifically for defense technology investments, alongside a group of JPMorgan Chase investors.

Additional Capital and Strategic Acquisition

As part of its financing strategy, Shield AI also sold $500 million in preferred shares to funds managed by Blackstone and secured a $250 million credit facility for future use. The influx of capital is supporting the company’s acquisition of Aechelon Technology, a firm specializing in flight simulation technology used for training U.S. military pilots. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Rapid Valuation Growth

This latest funding follows Shield AI’s $240 million raise in March 2025, which valued the company at $5.3 billion. In just one year, the company’s valuation has surged 140%, reflecting strong market confidence. The boost comes after Shield AI’s Hivemind autonomy software was chosen in February as part of the U.S. Air Force Collaborative Combat Aircraft drone prototype program, a key milestone for the startup.

Collaboration With Competitors

Interestingly, Shield AI’s software will integrate with competitor Anduril’s “Fury” autonomous fighter jet, even though Anduril has its own Lattice command software for the aircraft. The Air Force’s approach suggests it aims to avoid reliance on a single vendor for its next-generation autonomous drone fleet.

Meanwhile, Anduril remains a dominant force in the sector, having raised $2.5 billion at a $30.5 billion valuation in June 2025. Reports indicate the company may aim for up to $8 billion at a $60 billion valuation in future rounds.

Other Investors

Other participants in Shield AI’s Series G include Snowpoint Ventures, InnovationX, Riot Ventures, Disruptive, and Apandion, further strengthening the company’s financial and strategic position.
