Google has taken another major step in advancing its artificial intelligence tools with the introduction of new agentic capabilities in AI Mode. Announced on Tuesday, these enhancements are designed to help users complete real-world tasks such as booking event tickets and beauty or wellness appointments directly through Search.
Smarter Assistance Through AI Mode
AI Mode, originally launched to allow users to ask complex, layered questions within Search, now goes beyond information retrieval. For example, a user can type or say:
“Find me two cheap tickets for the Shaboozey concert coming up. Prefer standing floor tickets.”
The system then scans multiple ticketing websites in real time, curating a list of prices and availability options. Once a suitable option is found, AI Mode links users directly to the booking page, allowing them to complete the purchase seamlessly.
These new capabilities are currently available in the U.S. to users enrolled in Search Labs, Google’s experimental testing platform. Users subscribed to Google AI Pro and Ultra plans also enjoy higher usage limits.
From Restaurant Reservations to Real-World Convenience
This isn’t the first time Google has incorporated agentic features into AI Mode. Back in August, the company introduced a restaurant reservation function. Users could ask, for instance:
“Find me a dinner reservation for three people this Friday after 6 p.m. around Logan Square. Craving ramen or bibimbap.”
AI Mode would then gather real-time availability across various reservation platforms, presenting a refined list of options that match the request.
As Google explained on its Search Labs page:
“Our priority in Google Search is connecting you with high-quality information you can rely on. This new mode is rooted in our core quality and safety systems, but it’s still an early experiment and may make mistakes.”
Expanding Beyond Search
Originally introduced in March, AI Mode was designed to compete with innovative services such as Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search. Since then, it has been rolled out to users in over 180 countries, with continuous updates adding new functionality.
Recent additions include a Canvas feature, which helps users build study plans and organize research over multiple sessions, and integration with Google Lens, allowing users to ask questions about what’s displayed on their screen.
A Glimpse into the Future of Search
With these updates, Google continues to blur the line between a search engine and a personal assistant. By empowering AI Mode with task-oriented, agentic functions, the company is positioning its search ecosystem as a versatile tool that doesn’t just answer questions—but also takes action on behalf of users.
For now, these new tools remain experimental, but they point clearly toward Google’s broader vision: a search experience that combines intelligence, context, and real-world utility in one seamless interface
