Drum and Bass Bike Rave Makes a Comeback in the City of Dreaming Spires

Oxford Welcomes Drum and Bass Bike Rave: A Day of High-Energy Fun and Music

On Sunday, the historic streets of Oxford came alive as hundreds of people joined a unique and exhilarating event: the “On The Bike” drum and bass rave. Participants of all ages and backgrounds – from adults and children on bikes to those on scooters, rollerblades, and even skateboards – gathered to follow Dom Whiting, also known as the DJ On The Bike.

A High-Energy, Unforgettable Experience

The rave, described as “hectic, electric, and so much fun” by Thomas Maxwell, kicked off at 14:00 BST outside the Clarendon Building on Broad Street. Whiting, known for his modified bicycle that comes equipped with speakers and decks, led the crowd through the streets, blasting drum and bass beats as he cycled along.

Whiting, who first began his “On The Bike” events during the Covid-19 lockdowns, has become a sensation, gathering over 800,000 social media followers. For him, the return to Oxford was especially meaningful. In a Facebook post leading up to the event, he shared that Oxford was one of the original locations for the bike rave, making this comeback a special moment.

A Community Celebration of Music and Movement

The atmosphere was electric, as people of all ages joined in the festivities. “I was not expecting how many people would come out for it,” said Thomas Maxwell, who participated on a scooter. “The tunes were going, he’s a really good DJ. I’ll definitely go to the next one.”

Maxwell also commented on the unique experience of hearing drum and bass music in Oxford, describing it as “a complete contrast to the city.”

Fans Travel From Near and Far

Among the attendees were Vikky Edwards and Darryl Hull, who traveled all the way from Leamington Spa in Warwickshire to join the event. For them, the experience was unforgettable. “It was our first ride with him, so it was really cool,” said Ms. Edwards. Mr. Hull, a devoted fan of drum and bass, added that the event’s vibrant atmosphere was one of the best he had experienced.

For many participants, the “On The Bike” rave represents more than just music; it’s a celebration of community, energy, and movement. With Whiting’s return to Oxford, the city witnessed a remarkable fusion of music, culture, and the joy of cycling.

Looking Ahead: The Next Adventure

As Dom Whiting and his followers continue their raves in cities across the UK, fans eagerly await future events. The energy from Sunday’s gathering has set the bar high for upcoming “On The Bike” raves, with people already expressing their excitement for the next opportunity to join in the fun.
