GTA 6 May Have Quietly Updated One of Its Main Characters

Character Changes in GTA 6 Raise Eyebrows as Rockstar Faces Familiar Accusations

As anticipation continues to build for Grand Theft Auto VI, fans have begun noticing subtle but significant changes between the game’s trailers — particularly the transformation of a background character. Though Rockstar Games has offered no official explanation for the alteration, speculation suggests it could be a strategic response to a social media claim about the character’s resemblance to a real-life individual.

Rockstar Tweaks a Mysterious NPC Between Trailers

GTA 6 may not hit shelves until 2026, but it’s already making waves online — and not just for its stunning visuals or evolving storyline. A comparison between the game’s two trailers reveals that a specific non-playable character (NPC), whose identity is still unknown, has undergone a notable redesign.

Originally spotted greeting a friend in the first trailer, the same character later appears in the second trailer, now seen posing with another NPC. While the character’s outfit remains largely unchanged, fans — especially channels like @GTAVI_Countdown — have pointed out distinct updates: his hairstyle and facial hair have been modified, his sunglasses now feature a different frame and lighter, more translucent lenses, and a backwards cap has been added to his look.

The Viral Claim That May Have Sparked the Change

One potential explanation for the redesign surfaced shortly after the first trailer’s debut. TikTok user @zoeepoppyy posted a video claiming that Rockstar had modeled the NPC after him. The TikToker highlighted a striking resemblance, asserting that the likeness was too close to be coincidental.

“GTA. I need my money, man,” he stated in the video, implying that Rockstar should compensate him for using his appearance without permission. While there is no indication that any legal action was taken, the video attracted enough attention to raise questions about whether Rockstar made the character changes to steer clear of potential intellectual property or likeness rights issues.

A Pattern of Parodies — and Legal Pushback

Rockstar Games has a long history of satirizing and referencing real-world figures in its titles, often blurring the line between parody and portrayal. This isn’t the first time the studio has faced allegations of using someone’s likeness without consent. The so-called “Florida Joker” also claimed that a character in the original GTA 6 trailer was modeled after him.

Perhaps the most high-profile case was actress Lindsay Lohan’s lawsuit against Rockstar over a GTA V character she argued was based on her. The legal battle eventually ended in Rockstar’s favor, with Lohan losing the case. Despite this precedent, the studio appears more cautious this time around.

Visual Enhancements Hint at Ongoing Development

Beyond character design, fans have also noted a significant graphical leap between the two trailers, indicating that Rockstar is still fine-tuning the game’s visuals. The delay of GTA 6 to 2026 — while disappointing for fans who have already waited over a decade since the last installment — is at least somewhat justified by these continued improvements.

For many gamers and analysts, the visual polish and character tweaks signal that Rockstar is prioritizing quality and, perhaps, proactively managing legal risk before launch.
