Nintendo Confirms July 2025 Direct — But It’s Not What Fans Hoped For
After weeks of anticipation, Nintendo has officially announced a July 2025 Nintendo Direct — but with a twist that’s left some fans underwhelmed.
Rumors Prove True, But It’s a Partner Showcase
Persistent leaks and speculation from reliable insiders have finally been validated: Nintendo has confirmed its next digital event. However, rather than delivering a full-fledged Direct brimming with first-party content, the company revealed that the upcoming stream will be a Partner Showcase.
For many fans, this is a bittersweet development. Hopes were high that Nintendo would hold a major summer Direct, especially after skipping its traditional June presentation. That decision was largely attributed to the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, which took center stage at the time. With no June event, expectations naturally shifted to July — and now those expectations have been partially met.
Event Details: Date, Time, and What to Expect
The Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase is scheduled for July 31, 2025, at 6:00 AM PT. According to Nintendo, the stream will run for “roughly 25 minutes” and will highlight upcoming titles for both the original Switch and the newly released Switch 2, focusing exclusively on games “from our publishing partners.”
In other words, while fans might see compelling third-party announcements, they shouldn’t expect updates on anticipated first-party titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which still has no confirmed release date.
What’s Missing From the Lineup?
Although the Partner Showcase format can offer surprises, its limitations are clear. Big-name first-party games such as Kirby Air Riders, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, and Splatoon Raiders are unlikely to appear, especially as none of them have official release dates yet.
There was speculation that Splatoon Raiders might feature in the July event, particularly following a recent leak, but the nature of this showcase makes that scenario unlikely. Meanwhile, Drag x Drive, set to release on August 14, is one of the last confirmed Switch 2 exclusives currently on the calendar.
Looking Ahead: September Direct and Beyond
Despite the letdown for some, there’s optimism for the months ahead. Nintendo is widely expected to hold another, more traditional Direct event in September, a timeframe the company has historically favored for major announcements. Such an event would likely help populate Nintendo’s fall 2025 release calendar, which remains sparse aside from Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the only first-party title with a confirmed date.
As for other major games, including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby Air Riders, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, players are still waiting on updates. It also remains to be seen how Nintendo will map out its 2026 roadmap for the Switch 2 — a key factor in maintaining the new console’s sales momentum.
