Spotify Introduces “SongDNA” to Reveal the Hidden Connections Between Your Favorite Tracks

Spotify Unveils SongDNA to Transform Music Discovery Through Deeper Track Insights

Spotify has officially introduced its latest innovation, SongDNA, marking a significant step forward in how users interact with and understand music. Announced on Tuesday, the feature is now being rolled out globally, offering listeners a more immersive way to explore the stories and connections behind their favorite tracks.

A New Layer of Music Exploration

Currently available to Premium subscribers on both iOS and Android platforms, SongDNA delivers an interactive experience that goes far beyond traditional song details. Instead of only highlighting the main artist or songwriter, the feature enables users to dive into a wider network of information linked to each track.

Listeners can uncover details such as cover versions, samples, interpolations, and even explore other projects involving the same collaborators. This expanded view provides a richer understanding of how songs are created and how they relate to other works within the music ecosystem.

Building on Existing Features

SongDNA builds upon Spotify’s existing “About the Song” functionality, enhancing it with more dynamic and interconnected insights. By showcasing the roles of writers, producers, and contributors, the feature helps illustrate how artists influence one another and how creative collaborations shape the music industry.

This deeper visibility is particularly valuable for industry professionals, who may use the tool to identify potential collaborators, producers, or engineers for future projects.

Elevating Behind-the-Scenes Talent

One of the key benefits of SongDNA is its focus on giving greater recognition to individuals working behind the scenes. Songwriters, producers, and other contributors—who often receive limited visibility on streaming platforms—are now more prominently featured, helping to boost their credibility and industry presence.

Development and Industry Context

Initial reports about SongDNA surfaced in October, when TechCrunch revealed that Spotify was working on a feature designed to enhance music discovery through track credits. The discovery followed findings in the app’s code by reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong. Shortly after, Spotify confirmed plans to introduce the feature in early 2026.

The development of SongDNA has been supported in part by data from WhoSampled, a community-driven music database that Spotify acquired last year. This integration allows for more comprehensive and accurate mapping of song relationships.

At the same time, the feature enters a competitive space, going up against similar offerings such as TIDAL’s interactive credits, which also emphasize transparency around music contributors.

Spotify’s Vision for SongDNA

Explaining the motivation behind the feature, Jacqueline Ankner, Spotify’s Head of Songwriter & Publisher Partnerships, stated:

“By bringing collaborators, samples, and covers together in one place, we’re making it easier for fans to discover new music and see how songs connect and come to life—while giving songwriters, producers, and rightsholders meaningful recognition for the role they play in creating it,”

Rollout Timeline

SongDNA is currently being introduced in beta to Premium users worldwide on iOS and Android devices. Spotify expects the rollout to be fully completed by April, making the feature widely accessible to its global audience.
