Articul8 Pushes Ahead With Major Series B Milestone
Articul8, an enterprise-focused artificial intelligence company spun out of Intel in early 2024, has secured more than half of its targeted $70 million Series B funding round at a $500 million pre-money valuation, according to the company’s chief executive. The fundraising progress comes as demand accelerates for AI solutions tailored to highly regulated sectors.
Founder and CEO Arun K. Subramaniyan confirmed that the Series B round is being completed in two tranches, with the first installment led by Spain-based Adara Ventures. While he did not reveal the size of the initial close, Subramaniyan said the company expects to finalize the full round in the first quarter of this year.
Fivefold Valuation Growth Since Series A
The latest valuation represents a sharp increase from Articul8’s $100 million post-money Series A valuation in January 2024, marking roughly fivefold growth in just one year.
Since that earlier raise, the Santa Clara-headquartered company has exceeded $90 million in total contract value, which reflects the combined value of all signed customer agreements. Articul8 now counts 29 paying enterprise customers, including Hitachi Energy, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Franklin Templeton, and Intel.
Subramaniyan told TechCrunch that the company was not under pressure to raise capital, pointing to strong commercial momentum and sizable enterprise deals.
“We are not cash-strapped,” he said.
Revenue Momentum and Enterprise Focus
Articul8 expects to close the year with annual recurring revenue of just over $57 million, according to Subramaniyan, with approximately 45% to 50% of that revenue already recognized.
Rather than offering generic AI models, the company develops specialized AI systems deployed within customers’ own IT environments. These solutions are delivered as software applications and AI agents designed for specific business functions. The approach is aimed at industries such as energy, manufacturing, aerospace, financial services, and semiconductors, where data governance, accuracy, and auditability are essential.
Competing With Cloud Giants Through Specialization
Subramaniyan acknowledged that Articul8 operates in a highly competitive AI landscape but believes its focus differentiates the company from large cloud providers.
“Our competition is pretty much everybody,” said Subramaniyan. “But today, the major competitors are the cloud service providers, because they have realized that their model, as the general-purpose [offerings], are all commodities.”
He added that customers operating in regulated environments often prefer predictable outcomes and transparent audit trails—requirements that can be difficult to guarantee with shared, general-purpose AI models hosted on public cloud platforms.
International Expansion Plans Take Shape
The company plans to deploy the Series B capital primarily toward research and product development, alongside international expansion. Europe is a key priority, with Adara Ventures expected to play a strategic role in accelerating growth across the region. Subramaniyan noted that the European Investment Fund backs Adara’s energy-focused fund, strengthening Articul8’s European market ambitions.
Beyond Europe, Articul8 is also scaling operations in parts of Asia, including Japan and South Korea, where it has already begun working with large enterprise clients.
India-based Aditya Birla Ventures is also participating in the ongoing funding round, Subramaniyan confirmed.
Strategic Partnerships and Global Workforce
Articul8 collaborates with major technology players such as Nvidia and Google Cloud, while Amazon Web Services serves as both a customer and a deployment partner for select projects.
The company currently employs 75 people, with approximately 80% dedicated to research and development. Its teams are distributed across the United States, Brazil, and India, supporting product innovation and global customer delivery.
