AI-Powered Reliability Startup Secures Major Backing
Resolve AI, a technology startup building an autonomous site reliability engineer (SRE) designed to automatically operate and maintain software systems, has secured a Series A funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, according to three sources familiar with the transaction.
The financing places the company at a headline valuation of $1 billion, marking its entry into unicorn territory. However, sources noted that the effective blended valuation is lower due to a multi-tranched deal structure. Under this arrangement, investors acquired a portion of equity at the $1 billion valuation, while the remaining—and reportedly larger—portion was purchased at a reduced price. Investors say this type of structure has become increasingly common among highly sought-after artificial intelligence startups.
Neither Resolve AI nor Lightspeed Venture Partners responded to requests for comment.
Revenue Growth and Funding Details
Sources indicated that Resolve AI currently generates approximately $4 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR). The total size of the Series A funding round has not been disclosed.
Despite its relatively modest revenue, investor interest reflects growing confidence in AI-driven infrastructure automation and the startup’s experienced leadership team.
Founders With Deep Roots in Observability
Founded less than two years ago, Resolve AI is led by Spiros Xanthos, a former Splunk executive, and Mayank Agarwal, who previously served as Splunk’s chief architect for observability. The founders have a long-standing professional relationship dating back 20 years, originating during their graduate studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
This is not their first venture together. The pair previously co-founded Omnition, a startup that was acquired by Splunk in 2019, further strengthening their credibility in the enterprise software and observability space.
Automating the Role of Site Reliability Engineers
Traditionally, human SREs are tasked with manually diagnosing and fixing system failures—a process that can be time-consuming and resource-intensive. Resolve AI aims to change this model by autonomously identifying, diagnosing, and resolving production issues in real time.
The technology addresses a growing pain point for organizations as software systems become more complex and increasingly distributed across cloud environments. Many companies struggle to recruit and retain enough skilled SREs, making automation an attractive alternative. By reducing downtime and operational costs, AI-driven reliability tools allow engineering teams to focus more on innovation and product development.
Previous Funding and Competitive Landscape
In October last year, Resolve AI raised a $35 million seed round led by Greylock, with participation from World Labs founder Fei-Fei Li and Google DeepMind scientist Jeff Dean.
The company operates in a competitive space. One of its notable rivals, Traversal, another AI-powered SRE startup, raised a $48 million Series A led by Kleiner Perkins, with participation from Sequoia.
